FAQ's

I am specially trained in Relationship Counselling. It took 3 years to become a fully qualified Relationship Counsellor with Relate and two years to achieve a post graduate diploma in Education Guidance Counselling for schools and colleges.

All counsellors are required to continue with ongoing training and consultation with other appropriate professionals. Undergoing Continual Professional Development Training is another way in which as a counsellor I maintain ethical standards and highest practice.

The first counselling meeting also known as an Initial consultation is an opportunity for me to asses the support you need and also to arrange a time( if you attend as a couple or as two clients attending e.g. Mother and daughter) to see you as individuals. This is done before deciding on an appropriate course to undertake .

A single session lasts for 50 mins a double session lasts for 1hr and 40 mins.

After an initial consultation and an agreement made with both myself the Counsellor and client/s, sessions are booked in blocks of six. Once six sessions are completed I review with clients the work achieved and what they want to do next. Most clients undergo 12 sessions. With some clients the work takes longer but it is all the more rewarding as a result.

Yes. Counselling can be of great benefit in dealing with divorce and separation. It is an opportunity to unravel difficult emotions and make sense of what has happened. It also gives you education and insight to help you in future relationships.

Yes. Sometimes it is easier to gain clarity around difficult issues within a relationship with a Counsellor. You have the benefit of  professional ears and unconditional positive regard.  This is also a great opportunity to focus and communicate effectively with your spouse or partner, with what you have learnt.

48 hrs notice is required for cancellation of sessions whether that be a single or double session. If not a cancellation fee is charged, which is the price of the late cancelled session.

Yes. Relationship Counselling can serve different types of family relationships apart from an intimate couple relationship. Working together  e.g.as Mother and daughter or as siblings, can either resolve or manage family challenges that are so common to us a s human beings. Even though there is no magic pill, great progress can be made in this work.

The best asset you have to bring to counselling is an open mind and an attitude of fairness to yourself and your spouse or partner if you attend as a couple.

Everybody faces challenges in life. Learning from them, makes you far stronger and happier than if you try to defend or bury them.
